Welcome

Farmer City Solar opened its doors in 2018 by the owner Johan Thuynsma.

Johan Thuynsma opened a solar company in 2009 called Agri Solar in the Northern Cape which has widely expanded over the past few years with branches in Upington, Calfinia, Kathu and Vryburg. Because of the high demand in good quality solar systems in the Transvaal, Limpopo as well as the Free-State. Johan decided to sell his current shares in Agri Solar to open a new business called Farmer City Solar in Pretoria.

We have more than 16 years experience in the distribution and installation of all types of pumps and solar systems. We sell and install your system at the best price possible and our after sales service is what makes us stand out of the crowd. Kindly note that we proficient in Afrikaans and English.

We cater for your clean energy needs in the North West, Limpopo, Gauteng and Free-State areas.  Contact us today!

Alternative energy options

Grid Tie

A Grid Tie system is connected to your network for example Eskom and does not need any batteries. This system shuts down when Eskom shuts down during loadshedding for example. This system is typically used by clients with a high daily usage for example factories and workshops operating from 7am to 5pm. Some clients install this at their homes or guetshouses to halve their monthly bill, but in the evenings they will revert back to Eskom.
If your daily usage is high, then this system is for you. Grid Tie systems have a long life span because they don’t require the use of batteries.

Off Grid

An Off Grid system is independent from Eskom and is typically installed in areas where there are no electricity or where they want to discontinue using Eskom as a service provider. This system is dependent on batteries, for example Li-ion, Gel, Lead Acid batteries. Every battery has a different life span or cycles and varies in float and equalise values and should be installed by qualified solar power installers, as this can drastically influence their lifespan. The costs of batteries are expensive and therefore needs to be calculated and installed correctly.

Hybrid

Sometimes confused for an Off Grid system, the fact remains that this system combines an Off Grid and Grid Tie system in to one. This system works with Eskom, but also delivers electricity in the evenings when there is load-shedding. A hybrid inverter either works with batteries or panels or both. Due to its flexibility, this system is more expensive than other systems, but saves more on your monthly bill and gives assurance of power availability, even if Eskom is down. If your installer tells you the system he quoted you on, is a hybrid system, then you you should insure that it can also function without batteries. You will then know you have the correct inverter.

Submersible Pumps

Solar or AC 220V or 380V

These pumps are used in boreholes to extract water. You can use a DC pump, one that only works on solar panels, or pumps working from the Eskom grid / connection. They can run on a 220V or 3-Phase system. You get two types of submersible pumps, mono pumps and centrifugal pumps.

A submersible pump (or sub pump, electric submersible pump (ESP)) is a device which has a hermetically sealed motor close-coupled to the pump body. The whole assembly is submerged in the fluid to be pumped. The main advantage of this type of pump is that it prevents pump cavitation, a problem associated with a high elevation difference between pump and the fluid surface.

Surface Pumps

These pumps are typically used to increase pressure and flow. These pumps are located above ground and can also be used as push pumps.

Converting AC pump to solar

A new technology allowing you to convert your current system to solar for use during the day.

The benefit of this system is that your replacement cost of the pump is significantly lower than a normal pump and your saving is 100% of your current daily usage.

These pumps are typically used in rivers, dams or pivot irrigation spots. It is very popular for use with boreholes. VSD inverters are typically used for the conversion and their price makes it an affordable option to use. There is a VSD inverter which can be used for every pump.

Electric fence

An electric fence is a barrier and is commonly used to deter animals from crossing a boundary. Most electric fences are used today for agricultural fencing and other forms of animal control but it also safeguards your home, business and farm.

Solar Geyser

Save up to 40% of your monthly electricity bill by converting your existing system to a good solar geyser. High pressure for your residence and low pressure for your farm house where supply pressure is below 100KPA.

AC Pumps to Solar

Everyone would love to generate their own electricity for their own consumption to avoid power outages and constant price increases! Here are a couple of things to consider before taking the plunge as it is far cheaper to convert the power hungry items in your home or business than try run them off solar.

Going off the grid can be costly, but if you’re prepared to make the necessary changes this price can be brought down hugely. You don’t need to make all the changes at once but it’s good to know where to start.

Electric Fence

An electric fence is a barrier that uses electric shocks to deter animals and people from crossing a boundary. The voltage of the shock may have effects ranging from discomfort to death. Most electric fences are used today for agricultural fencing and other forms of animal control, although they are frequently used to enhance the security of sensitive areas

Solar Geyser

Solar water heating (SWH) is the conversion of sunlight into heat for water heating using a solar thermal collector. A variety of configurations are available at varying cost to provide solutions in different climates and latitudes. SWHs are widely used for residential and some industrial applications.

A sun-facing collector heats a working fluid that passes into a storage system for later use.

Solar swimming pool pump

When the sun comes up in the morning the pump will start to work and when it goes down at night the pump will stop. This gives the pump sufficient time to keep your pool clean and reduce your electricity bill with an off-grid solution.

Farmer city solar got its name because the farmer aswell as the guy in the city will be serviced by this unique company.

Johan has more than 16 years of experience in all tipes of pumps, solar batteries, panels and solar systems.

They sell aswell as instal your system at the best price possible and their after sales service is what makes them stand out of the crowed.

Farmer city solar is often copied but never matched and will be your only choice if you want a solar sollution for your farm, business or home.

UPS

An uninterruptible power supply or uninterruptible power source (UPS) is an electrical apparatus that provides emergency power to a load when the input power source or mains power fails. A UPS differs from an auxiliary or emergency power system or standby generator in that it will provide near-instantaneous protection from input power interruptions, by supplying energy stored in batteries

Submersible Pumps

A submersible pump (or sub pump, electric submersible pump (ESP)) is a device which has a hermetically sealed motor close-coupled to the pump body. The whole assembly is submerged in the fluid to be pumped. The main advantage of this type of pump is that it prevents pump cavitation, a problem associated with a high elevation difference between pump and the fluid surface.

Surface Pumps

A grid-tied electrical system, also called tied to grid or grid tie system, is a semi-autonomous electrical generation or grid energy storage system which links to the mains to feed excess capacity back to the local mains electrical grid. When insufficient electricity is available, electricity drawn from the mains grid can make up the shortfall. Conversely when excess electricity is available, it is sent to the mains grid.
